“Jenny y Genaro Para Siempre”

With these words on the cake of her surprise engagement party, Jenny’s weekend and her whole future seemed sealed with magic.

The couple met through Craigslist (that’s right folks, Craigslist is not all evil!), when Genaro answered Jenny’s ad for a hiking buddy. She was a paralegal working in Downtown Oakland, and he was a transportation engineer who worked just a few blocks away from her. They decided to meet and go for a hike; so one sunny summer day, with his cool pearl blue Subaru WRX, Genaro picked up Jenny and whisked her off to Marin. While Jenny later admits that it may not be a cool idea to let a man you had just met drive you out in the woods, she certainly lucked out that day and found herself chatting non-stop with her new best friend. The next six years of their lives were filled with memorable times both spent together and apart due to schooling and work. However, despite their busy schedules and frequent long-distance status, Jenny and Genaro always found time to see each other and go on adventures together. When Jenny finished her law studies in LA, they took an amazing month-long journey to Asia that included destinations in China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

Then, the most magical weekend happened.

When Jenny flew down from Oakland to LAX for a weekend of celebration for Genaro’s birthday, she was surprised see Genaro, wearing a suit, waiting in the arrival lobby with a bouquet of roses and a big smile on his face. Tears started streaming down her face, as Genaro got down on one knee and asked, “Will You Marry Me?” — and that’s just the start of an evening filled with surprises — as it turned out, there was a perfectly fitted black cocktail dress waiting for her in the car, and Genaro took her shoe shopping to complete the whole ensemble. While Jenny was still recovering from disbelief and rush of excitement, Genaro proceeded to tell her that they were going to dinner and will be staying at an ocean-side resort in Laguna Beach. That evening, they celebrated the engagement with a dinner of tapas and red wine, and went back to a candle-lit room full of sprinkled rose petals, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a bottle of chilled champagne. Now, while most women would feel like they died and went to heaven by this point, Jenny’s weekend got even more magical the next day. Genaro had secretly organized his birthday party at his parent’s backyard to be a surprise engagement party. He even coordinated with Kevin, Jenny’s sister, to make sure Jenny’s family in Oakland would be together that evening to use the web chat feature so that everyone could be part of the event. As the evening wound down and Genaro toasted the guests over his birthday cake, another two-tiered cake was brought out, which included a sign made of white chocolate that says “Jenny y Genaro Para Siempre” (Jenny and Genaro Forever).

Quite a magical love story, right? :)

So there you have it, after a little over six years of dating, this pair of love birds decided to make LA their home-base and got married in Capistrano Beach! And boy did this fun-loving couple know how to throw the party of a lifetime! They had a Mariachi band, a scavenger hunt for kids, dedicated orators at educational exhibits, and toward the end of reception everyone was treated with the coolest Chinese Lion Dance ever! What a fun celebration!

Bhudda Fountain Decor Flating Pink Chrysanthemums

Last Saturday we arrived in the Philips Ranch area for Kimberli’s bridal shower.  The shower took place at her mom’s place, where Kimberli and her family and friends transformed the backyard into a vibrant and cozy gathering space, anchored with the theme: “Eat, Pray, Love.”  (And that’s what it says on the cake too! Scroll down and you shall see, it’s a cute one! :)  There were a lot of details: paper lanterns hanging down from the patio, a Buddha fountain with floating chrysanthemums, Moroccan style candle lantern centerpieces adorned with flowers around the bases, and even the buffet table was lined with fresh fruits and produces.  Gotta love details like these!

One by one, the guests started to show up.  Hugs were exchanged, food and drinks shared, and love and laughter filled the air.  Following the feast, guests were divided into 4 teams for a game – to create a bridal dress with only rolls of toilet tissues and paper clips.  What a fun idea!  Originally we thought Kimberli had the most beautiful white dress on that day; however, after seeing all the “Haute-Couture ” creations that the ladies came up with… we weren’t quite sure anymore! :p

Thanks Kimberli! We really enjoyed spending such a delightful afternoon with you, your family, and all the lovely ladies!

Great vibrant colors and an eclectic mix of decors representing different cultures created a festive atmosphere fit for the theme Eat, Pray, Love:

It’s been awhile since our contest started (Mid June), so we’ve decided to extend both prize redemption periods to 12/31/2011.  Thanks everyone for your participation!  Now, without further ado, the winners of our contest are: Jennifer Woo and Lennox Wiseley!  Hooray! :D Congratulations guys!!!  You can redeem your Free 30-minute Mini Session and $350 “Photo Goodness” credit anytime between now and the end of next year!

Jennifer and Lennox both picked the same question to answer:
What’s the most romantic thing anyone has done for you? or vice versa?

Jennifer:

A guy I was dating told me we were going to drive out to the beach to go star gazing.  About 10 minutes after we settled down on top of his car, fireworks started exploding in the sky.  It turned out that he had timed everything so that we would catch the nightly fireworks show from Sea World.

Lennox:

Michael and I were decorating easter eggs one April, which he’d never done before, because he’s from England and the tradition doesn’t seem to be as popular there. It was a lot of fun and a huge mess and we really enjoyed the day. He was kind of secretive about one of the eggs he was making, and I figured it was because he’d written a surprise Easter message on it. Then, a few days later, he told me to pack a few things, he was whisking me away for the weekend. So I grabbed some clothes and we got in the car and he started driving. I hoped we were going to Carmel, as that has been a favorite romantic spot for us, and we were! We arrived just before Sunset and he said we were going to walk to dinner. So we walked along the beach as the sun was setting and looked out at the ocean. Suddenly, he saw a big rock and wanted to go out to it. So we went out and I sat on the big rock, with a beautiful view of the sunset. And he handed me a small paper bag. I opened it up, hoping it would be an engagement ring, but it was an egg. I looked at it, kind of perplexed, and laughed. “You brought me out here to give me an egg?” “Read it!” he said. So I looked down at the writing and it said, “Marry me!” And when I looked down, he was kneeling down with a beautiful ring and he said, “Will you marry me?” (Needless to say, I said, yes!)

Thank you Jennifer and Lennox for sharing your stories with our readers!

It’s pretty obvious now that romantic surprises are cool in our books :p
And since a post without a picture is like a cupcake without icing, we have searched our pictures “vault” (don’t we all have terabytes of data nowadays?) for images that would help add some splashes of color to this post.  Turns out, we are also fans of fireworks and the charming seaside village of Carmel (and who wouldn’t be? :)

This was taken by Henry during Disneyland’s fireworks with our new Canon 70-200mm IS II:
