A few months ago, we did a series of maternity sessions with Reena (see post here: Maternity Session:: Reena and Hero Part II).  Reena’s mom Anne saw the images and immediately fell in love with our style, so she asked her husband Roger to hire us to do their holiday family portraits.  For this session I aimed to create a good mixture of relaxed, fun-loving outdoor portraits with a few indoor traditional looks.  Below are some of our favorites form the session. Enjoy!

This shot was taken in front of their beautiful property nestled up in the hills:

This next image is probably my favorite one from the set.  I love how Roger carefully holds Anne’s hand, and I love Anne’s beaming smile.  They look so beautiful together!  XOXO

Birthday Girl Trevona :: Urban Lifestyle Portraits

Found in Anytime, Our Stories

My first job interview.

The trip down memory lane conjured up mixed emotions.  It was stressful as one can imagine, but it was also a day where I gained a lifelong friend.

Having a more introverted disposition, interviews were never easy for me, no matter how well prepared and qualified I felt for the positions sought.  I remember I was only 20 years old, sitting in the lobby, nervously peeking at all these people rushing in and out of the offices, wondering if any of them would turn out to be my interviewer, or maybe a close colleague later on, all the while trying to drown out the startling sound of shrieking phone rings that never seemed to stop.

Then, a beautiful lady with big eyes and friendly smile walked toward me.  “Hi, I am Trevona!”  She greeted me and showed me the way to the meeting room.  Doors were shut behind me, and once again I found myself sitting in a chair feeling alone, and dreading for what I had felt like was an impending doom.  But somehow, that warm friendly smile Trevona emitted worked magic to ease my nerves.  I calmed down and was able to sail smoothly through the interview, consequently landing my very first job and marking the beginning of what came to be a 15-year graphic design career.

Naturally, Trevona and I became close friends. We both worked in the marketing department, and sat right next to each other.  Very often we would stay out late after work, exploring new places to eat and scouring the shops for the next fashion fix.  Life was good and simple, and time passed by as our friendship grew.

10+ years later, both of our lives have had significant changes.  We changed jobs, we moved, but we remained in close contact.  And no matter how time has changed, Trevona stayed the same — she’s that girl with a pure heart — sweet, independent, optimistic and passionate about life.  This year, before her birthday, she asked me if I could do some portraits for her.  I was more than happy to oblige!  Trevona took a day off work, and together we spent one fabulous afternoon being girly — chatting, eating, gossiping ;), shopping, giggling and taking photos — having fun and making memories!

We started off by taking some pictures at her apartment complex :

Lifestyle Family Portraits :: Old Town Monrovia

American writer Gail Buckley once said: “Family faces are magic mirrors.  Looking at people who belong to us, we see the past, present and future. ”

After several years of residence in the U.S. — schooling, working and building a family together — Jenny and Zephyr decided to move back to the country where they were born, to reunite with loved ones and to provide the children with an enriched cross-cultural upbringing.  They want to celebrate the past, the present and the future ahead by taking some family pictures for memories before leaving for Taiwan, so we headed out to old town Monrovia one sunny afternoon for a lifestyle family portraits session.

Looking at the young couple, one may find it hard to believe that they are already parents of two boys.  Casper is 3 years old, and loves to make faces and follow his big brother around.  Clifford, being two years older and the “cooler” brother, is very assertive in what he wants, and is quite the master LEGO builder!  It was a rather hot day at the shoot, with temperatures reaching into the high 90s; however, we were able to somewhat escape the grueling heat by staying in the shades and taking a refreshment break (thank you Jenny and Zephyr, for treating us to those delicious smoothies!)

We thought it’s sooo cute to see the boys showing up with matching plaid shirts, and loved the colorful balloons and fun toys they brought along too.  Lesson of the day: balloons, smoothies, Legos, and parents who absolutely adore and lavish their children with love make for happy kids!

Here are some of our favorites from the day:
